Safari gateway

Arusha is not simply a transit point. It is where most private Northern Circuit safaris begin, with direct road access toward Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Karatu, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. An overnight here helps absorb flight delays, gives time for a proper briefing, and avoids starting a long game-drive day immediately after an international arrival.

Arusha has one of the widest accommodation ranges in northern Tanzania, from efficient city hotels to high-end garden lodges on coffee estates. For a luxury itinerary, a quiet lodge outside the central business district can create a softer arrival. For mid-range trips, central hotels work well when the priority is convenience, reliable meals and an early departure.

Safari logistics

Kilimanjaro International Airport is normally the main international gateway for Northern Tanzania. Arusha Airport is used for many domestic safari flights. Road timings vary with traffic and the location of the hotel, so final transfer arrangements should be confirmed in the itinerary rather than assumed from a map.

Optional time in Arusha
